NK does not believe in "disposable electronics." We know our products don't lead a pampered life, and we design them for years of performance in tough conditions. We guarantee every NK Kestrel to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for a period of FIVE YEARS from your date of purchase. We will repair or replace any defective product or part when notified within the warranty period, and will return the product via domestic ground shipping at no charge.

The following issues do not result from a manufacturing defect and are not covered under this warranty:

  • Damage due to improper use or neglect (including corrosion)
  • Damage resulting from severe impact, crushing or mechanical harm
  • Modifications or attempted repairs by someone other than an authorized NK repair agent
  • Impeller failure not caused by a manufacturing defect
  • Normal wear from use of the product
  • Failed batteries
  • Re-calibration beyond 30 days from your date of purchase

Your warranty period will be measured from your date of purchase. The best way to ensure full warranty coverage is to REGISTER your NK product promptly (via the provided form). We keep your registration information strictly confidential and do not sell it, share it, or use it for anything but product-related information bulletins (which you may decline receiving). If you do not register and cannot provide proof of purchase, your warranty period will be measured from our date of manufacture (by serial number), which may be well before your purchase date. This limited warranty is only valid and enforceable in the country where you have purchased the product provided that it is intended for sale in that country.

We request that you contact NK if you feel your product is not working properly. We can often solve product issues by phone or e-mail, saving you the time and expense of returning the unit. If we require the product to be returned, we will issue a Return Authorization to expedite the handling of your claim.

Our minimum charge to test a unit and process a repair is $25. To avoid paying this charge unnecessarily, please perform simple troubleshooting before you send in your product.


Okay, time for the unavoidable legalese: Except as otherwise provided herein, no other warranties, expressed or implied, are made with respect to these products, including, but not limited to, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. NK assumes no liability for any damages, losses, or expenses resulting directly or indirectly from product use.

Calibrations, Certifications and Service

Every NK product is tested and calibrated before it leaves our factory. We guarantee that it will perform within specifications when you receive it. If you feel an NK product is not meeting specs when you receive it, call us and we'll make sure you are operating it correctly. If it still appears that it may be out of spec, return it to us within 30 days of purchase and we will test and recalibrate all values at no charge. Beyond 30 days, we offer reasonably-priced tests, calibration services and NIST certified calibrations as well as Kestrel tune-ups. 

All of our measurements are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, ensuring the reliability you need. Our primary Calibration Standards are sent for calibration in accordance with N.I.S.T. requirements and based on regular schedule. Only approved laboratories and N.I.S.T themselves are used for these calibration services. Incoming and outgoing data is supplied with the certificate of calibration. We provide 5-7 day turnaround on most calibrations and fast 24-hour service is available. (Rush service adds $50, including overnight shipping back to you). Note that wind speed can only be NIST certified to +/- 3%, although NK will only certify a unit that falls within our +/- 2% wind speed accuracy specification.

We also offer full factory service on every product we manufacture for as long as we make the product (and as long after as component availability permits). If we can't repair a product, we will offer you a brand-new replacement under our Customer Care Program (even for accidental damage and misuse).

Customer Care Program

NK wants you to be an NK customer for life, so we take care of you even beyond the terms of the above warranty with our Customer Care Program. Trade-in any of the following NK products, no matter the age or condition, and receive a discount on a replacement product.  Your trade-in discount applies to the same model.
Your trade-in must be surrendered to receive the discount and cannot be retained for parts or attempted salvage.

Why buy from an authorised Australian reseller:

 Notice To Internet & Overseas Shoppers: You should ensure that you purchase your new NK products from an AUTHORISED NK DEALER. If you are unsure whether an Australian NK seller is authorised, you should contact the Nielsen Kellerman sales department for clarification on (02) 6258 9380.


   Please Note:

Not all models or colours available overseas are distributed in Australia. Some models are specifically manufactured for Australia to comply with Australian  Communication Authority requirements (items that do not meet this standard are illegal to use in Australia).
So if you purchase from an unauthorised dealer or purchase from overseas, you run the risk of obtaining a model that is not locally supported in Australia.
Nielsen Kellerman products that are purchased from unauthorised resellers WILL NOT be covered under NK Australia's warranty nor Customer Care Plan. Additionally, you may potentially run the risk of buying a refurbished, reconditioned or non-current unit.
Also any Nielsen Kellerman product  (includes Kestrel Weather Meter, rowing electronics & ClearNav) sold on an open auction site (eg. e-bay) is considered to be the re-sale of a previously owned product and not purchased from an authorised dealer.

When you buy from an authorised Australian NK dealer you can be sure that you are receiving a new product and the backing of  our warranty, customer care & support.
